| Secret Garden Studios first
opened for business in summer 1994 in what was at that
time, the Pool Room of Pine Lodge Hostelry in Myrtleville.
The directors, then as now, were Johnny Campbell, who
had previously been working in Sulán Studios
in Ballyvourney and Rupert MacCrthy-Morrogh who was
working for TurboSound. The beginning was inauspicious
to say the least with mid-range technology and recording
time dictated by the licensing laws. However, the response
was such that we persevered and gradually set about
securing new equipment and a change of premises.
 The
digital revolution was just beginning to get into its
stride and by the time we moved to Dunkathel House in
the autumn of '95, we were operating a fully digital
16 Track system with automated mixdown and total recall.
We kept improving our system and by the time we left
Dunkathel House a couple of years ago – yes, it
was sold to speculators – we were the best equipped
studio in the region.
We spent the time since then concentrating on our location
recording business and setting up a new premises which
we are now happy to declare open. The new studio is
situated at Bunaglanna, Glenville in North Cork and
while it feels almost in the middle of nowhere; its
just twenty minutes from the Jack Lynch Tunnel and offers
a purpose-built acoustically designed control room and
live room in the most pastoral of settings.
Naturally, our technology is at the cutting edge and
we are offering ProTools HD recording (up to 192 kHz)
with Genelec Surround Sound monitoring (see facilities
page for details). The afore-mentioned digital revolution
has resulted in a plethora of low budget studios opening
around the country but as they say in Darts parlance,
'you can't fake the Bull'. If you want a big sound,
you must use 'big' equipment, particularly where microphones
are concerned. When you book Secret Garden, you are
not just getting the top-class equipment and facilities;
you are also getting all our experience and, of course,
our reputation and integrity.
We continue to operate our location recording business
using our portable ProTools rig with Klein & Hummel
monitoring which is fully compatible with the studio
for mix down. We are the regional leaders in location
recording.
